Do you love big bluegill?
Due to an automobile accident I do not currently do much outside in the cold as it is somewhat painful with pins in the ankle. This being said with the advance in winter fishing gear I am thinking of trying it maybe though a guided service. But who knows still watching our pennies.

Ran across a cool short story by writer James Prosek and his childhood dreams about bluegill fishing.......It caught my eye when he said he found bigbluegill.com while browsing one night while working in the museum in Raleigh......
Go to gardenandgun.com/article/bluegill-dreams for a cool short story.
A few weeks ago, I posted the math related to calculating just how much line is needed to fill a reel spool (of known dimensions) to a desired depth and in doing so, determined that it takes one heck of a lot of line if its diameter is .001". This is what Sufix claims for its 2 lbs. Nanobraid. If one converts the millimeter measurement Sufix also provides to inches, it is a bit closer to .002" as I recall. Still, it is incredibly small for a true braided line.
Anyway, I have fished…Continue
Closed out 2016 yesterday with a total of 5,921 sunfish for 2016 with six total species caught on the Albemarle. Here is the breakdown by species during another great year.....
Coming in at Number Six for the year is the REDBREAST Sunfish: Not as abundant on the Albemarle as other species but still doing well in several locations..........I release the ones I catch here hoping they will increase in numbers because they are very fun to catch.…Continue
Decided to hit up the river for some panfish action since I've never really targeted panfish on this body of water before. Being a flowing body of water, I headed for some still backwaters. I first hit the marina but no panfish. I head further to a more secluded and quiet backwater that is 6' deep at the time. To get here, you gotta cross through 2' shallow sand bars. Once there, I start at the end of the backwater and work out. Right away I picked up some 5"-6" bluegills in 2' of water…Continue
Tuesday was mediocre as far as fishing goes, with only 28 caught of the usual species: largemouth, sunfish, perch and crappie. But Wed. on a different lake was like night and day! The weather was different : overcast with sprinkles vs. sunny; the lakes were much different: the previous lake is much larger and deeper with miles of wetlands; the lake yesterday 25' shallower with no wetlands but with a rip rap dam at one end and a long steep bank with overhangs.
Both lakes have produced…Continue
Went to Old Hickory this morning to work out some bugs in my Garmin 7 SV, no luck there. Decided while I was there to fish a little. Only had a couple of hours so, I tried a little bass fishing. Bluegills wouldn't leave my slider alone so, I tried a white Roadrunner. Nothing, not even a sniff. Back to the slider, peck peck peck. Changed to a dark Crappie Slider and it was game on. Caught about 50 mostly small in an hour plus 2 Kentuckies and a Largemouth. Just a few big enough to keep so I…Continue
Has anyone shopped at one of the Field and Stream Outdoor Stores? How's their fishing department? Grand opening this weekend about an hour from me ...........Looks alot like Bass Pro...…Continue
I went out on the kayak the other day and found a bunch of agressive gills in deep water (25'-30') off a weed edge. Took several 8 inchers for a meal but also got this beauty that was just shy of 11". Released it to swim again. …Continue
Hey guys today the wife and I are going fishing for bluegill at one of the ponds in her parents subdivision. We have fished there a few times before but have never really caught a large amount of fish there, but we have not ever fished the whole lake very thorough. We have always fished a point in the lake that I knew we would get bites just to make sure that my wife stay interested in fishing. She gets bored very easily so it is best to put…Continue
As we close out what I consider to be peak on the Albemarle region of coastal North Carolina for Bluegill fishing, I wanted to take a glance back over the last three months and see how things went. Here's what I discovered for 2016:
In May I fished 15 times for a total of 1,024 gills.........the largest creel was 120 and the lowest was 25........That worked out to an average bluegill creel of 68 for these fishing…Continue
Ok guys here is pond number four this week, I kind of took it easy and went to a friends house to hang out and fish a little bit after work. The pond is located in Liberty Park subdivision and the GPS coordinates are 33°29'23.92"N, 86°39'39.81"W. Just keep in mind that this is a private pond for residents and guests. Hear is a shot of what the lake looks like.…Continue

Today was a very cool day for July in Alabama. I was not able to co fish this morning before work, but I was lucky and able to fish for a few hours this afternoon after work. So I went to Old Camp Crosby Lake to try to catch a few fish. This lake I have found very hard to fish since it is so heavily fished. All that I have ever caught here is a bunch of 2 to 3 inch bluegill and bass, but today I found out that a Shakespeare ultra light rod and reel with 4 lb…Continue

Today I went to another pond on the same road that was only about 200 yards from the one that I fished yesterday.
The official hunt for Bluegill here in Birmingham, AL starts in the morning. I will be getting up and going and trying a local pond that is a few blocks from my house. I am going to be bank fishing for the rest of the summer most likely but I am currently looking to purchase a kayak that way I can go almost anywhere.…Continue
Hello to all !!!!!
I moved to Dallas / Fort Worth Texas from San Diego Ca. about a year ago. I would like to know what lakes near me would hold
decent size Blue Gil. I purchased a 14.5" Lund and belong to all of the State Parks in Texas. This all sounds great but there is a lot of lakes, rivers, and streams in this area. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Hey guys I have just gotten back into fishing about two weeks ago because a friend had invited me to go with him one day. My wife said that might have been a big mistake because since then I have bought four rod and reals and a lot of tackle and go fishing almost every morning before work. I have always loved to fish for bluegill and crappie because they are so much fun to catch and my mom and now my wife love to eat them. That being said I have never fished in Alabama before two…Continue
Bluegill fishing in Minnesota has been off to a great start! We started off in May during the pre spawn period searching for northern giants on the edges of hard stem bulrushes. Anything that featured green cabbage adjacent to the rushes and contained a steep break-line with deep water access seemed to be the ticket. The key has been patterns not spots as fish location has been changing on a weekly basis, but the patterns have remained consistent. Last week, the first full moon in June, just…Continue

I have had back problems for awhile now and had back surgery earlier this year. This has limited what I can lift to 25 lbs ...that is unless I want to screw it up more and have to have the disk fused. Not what i want to do. Anyway I can't really get my kayaks to the water right now, vehicle issues, but even if I could lifting them is out of the question. Working on a trailer build that will help some.
Ok back to the reason for this post...I was wondering if anyone is…
