WOW!! I need to move to a cooler climate anyway. Georgia heat is messing up my fishing. That is one monster hybrid. Are they any relation to the Georgia Giant strain? Nick.

You're doing what most people would do, early morning or late evening. Are you fishing a lake, pond, stream, or river? Where I'm located, I'd fish deep during the day if I could only handle the triple digit air temperatures that we're having at the…

Man, It sounds like you three had a ball and the outcome goes to a great cause. Should be more "regional" competition like that to help local fisheries programs. Way to go guys. Nick

Hey Eric, I use crickets myself. I have thrown a cricket with no weight so they lie on top of the water. I use a bobber for weight to get away from the bank. I do this early in the morning or towards evening when the bream are feeding on the surface…

Hot weather

It's just plain hot here in Georgia. Been out a few times but can't seem to find many fish. I've fished deep on the bottom with little success, thrown slow falling ant patterns on a fly rod to see if I can locate them in the water column with still little success. Bounced crickets and worms off the bottom. The water temps have been in the 70's and up. Gone early in the morning and at sunset and again, little luck. Any thoughts from you experts? Nick

Catching a few

Hey folks, I haven't been able to get out to the lakes like I have in the past due to transportation issues. When I have gone, I've been able to pick up crackers and gills between a 1/2 pound to a pound. I'm compiling a CD of photos from the beginning of the season to about mid July then I'll post what I've caught. Haven't been able to get up to Callaway Gardens yet, but that trip is on the horizon. They say that the crappie are still being caught on artificials only and the gills on live bait.… Continue

New "Old" place to catch gills and crappie

About 30 minutes from me in Columbus, Georgia, there's a ritzy family resort called Callaway Gardens. The resort has a main lake of around 120 acres. It's a fee based lake where one can rent a boat and trolling motor for $35.00 for a half day's fishing. An angler may take 7 bluegill well over 1 1/2 pounds, 7 bass, and all of the crappie he can tote! I talked with the fisheries biologist, and he said that the gill limit is low (at one time an angler could take home 15 gills), but due to the ri

Hey Bruce, I'll add some photos as time goes on. I like to wait until I have enough pics and then have them all put on a disk so I'll have a hard copy in case the computer crashes. I learned that the hard way last year and lost everything. Again, thanks for the encouragement. Nick.

They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…

About the only time you can fish Pawhuska from the bank is when they drop the lake for trout season. There is no cost to fish it.
