A place to discuss tactics and equipment for using crank baits to catch bluegill.

I use Blue Sky furled leaders, the five foot nine inch length ( 5' 9") and add tippet according to water level and clarity. I usually fish rivers.

Don't believe that'd be a useful application for a braid type line. This is the place for flourocarbon. steve b

Anyone ever try something like Fireline for leader material, rather than mono? Maybe there's not enough 'memory' to it to work well? I've heard one can take a black magic marker to make it invis? Gregory

9' or about the length of your rod would be a good standard to go by in trout fishing (although that depends on what kind of flies your thowing - nymphs, dries, streamers), but if you're fishing for bluegill in my experience you don't need quite as…

It seems like most that I've seen are 9 feet and in some cases longer. I believe Orvis has both 12 and 9. I saw a website with some furled leaders that were over 8 feet long and the site mentioned that you could create 12 to 20 foot leaders with the…

Great advice Dick! Personally, I never exceed the length of the rod with my leader. Mike

Is there a 'rule of thumb' on how long a tapered mono leader should be? 8'6" 5 wt rod, WF floating line and the tapered leader is 109" or 9' long. Just seems a little too long for me? Thanks, Gregory

Sounds like a neat idea? Maybe someplace where we could do some fishing? Gregory

Hey Greg! This is a great site. We gotta find some of those big gills in our area!

My buddy had a 13.5" mounted, but his dog got to the mount and really did some damage. Kegonsa can be a tough lake to figure out. Tend to be murky as the summer goes along with algae. Haven't had alot of time to explore it yet but my youngest son is my fishing buddy and if we can get a good Friday (weatherwise) I know we can get a start on that.

Thanks for the friend invite! I haven't been out on Waubesa. Done some fishing on Kegonsa and in the Yahara below the dams. Used to fish Rock Lake (Lake Mills) and would catch quite a few in the 10" range. My sister-in-law lives in Point.

Aw shucks there I go making a fool out of myself on line again. Sorry about the whole rooked thing, I saw that was on a different post of one of your pics Zach. I'm a little paranoid about Google, so thats where that came from. I've gotta work on my…

They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…

I was kind of worried about that, but I have seen some variations of Hybrids look this way, or at least that is what was posted on the internet. We always called these black pearch. To be honest I do not think the Green Sunfish have the yellow bel…

I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart. Do you have tricks you would like to share on catching these guys? Did you happen to get the weight of any of these fish?

They fight just like a big bluegill. I am told you can eat them but haven't tried yet. The ones we caught today went to a friend who has a pet shop. I wouldn't mind trying them though. They are local to south Texas and I would imagine that they eat…

Oops sorry Zach I forgot about need a trout stamp on your license.

Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…

About the only time you can fish Pawhuska from the bank is when they drop the lake for trout season. There is no cost to fish it.

I know, I will have to try it out this fall when the temps drop a bit. Can you fish it from the bank at all, and is there a cost to fish it?

Oh brother, Zach living in Northeast Oklahoma and having not fished this lake before......Let me tell you. A spring fed 90 Acres of Heaven. The wildlife department comes in and stocks trout every other week from November until the end of March (bl…
