I love to use these tied in tandem. A swivel, then about a foot of fairly stiff floro, them about a 2 and half foot length of 4-6 lb floro, with a Ika tied, underneath an upright bobber, ever so slowly retrieved until the magic rhythm gets a strike.…
Perch - the wily perch. Every time I catch one, I think another will be easy, and yet. . . videos show perch nipping - the gills are the great fighters though . Now, who has to clean these.? What a day !
AH the wily perch. Books say they are easy to catch, but we who target them know they are piscatorial mysteries. Pure fun every time. Now, tell us, do you wait for the bobber to sink or maintain steady line contact to set the hook?
Agree with all the commentary - but I find that hooked through th elips a light wire aberdeen or chesterton(sp?) style hook is best, and I always place a piece of powerbait or gulp waxie after the minow's been hooked over the hook shank to prevent t…
Hey - I've got a hobie kayak too, but I'm so weak in the back that I need two people to launch a one man boat! Few times I've been out have felt wobbly, but what's your opnion of this craft and your setup?
Thanks

One of the things I love about fishing is the surprises. I got our on Lake Hopatcong in Jersey last Tusday - heat wave to 92, big, big southwest wind, and fishing the usual spots without success due to wind, and resulting poor bobber control. After…
Hey Glenn, in regard to the perch/bluegill thing...at Piney Run we have noticed huge spawns the past few years and thousands of 4 to 7 in yellow perch are observed in the shallows from late April to late May. This year, alot of 12 to 14 in perch are caught around the docks this past 2 weeks on minnows and worms fished on the bottom. Just recently, however, and I believe in conjunction with the record high temps of a week ago, anglers were getting some bruiser gills in the mix, likely fish that are in pre-spawn mode as the water has actuallly dropped from 72 to 62 F this past week. We look for perch to fade out and gills begin to dominate during this overlap period of high aquatic activity that is seeing everything in the lake move shallow and feed aggressively. Hope it lasts a few more weeks!

Glad to see another fisherman from Jersey!Welcome Glenn!
Sorry forgot to tell you that most of the area is surranded by Allamuchy state park. That is the best way to find it on a map. Find the park and look to the East of it and find Rt 206. If you need more help let me know. I'm in that area all the time. Some good ice fishing there also, if you are into that.
If you look at a map of New Jersey. Look for a State Park called Allamuchy ( Al A Mooch E ) Water Loo Village is on Waterloo Rd. Jefferson Lake is just off of Waterloo Road, about mile mile and a half from Rt. 206 in Byram.
The lake is public, even has a boat ramp (Saw a 27 foot boat lauch out of it) The land around the lake is a private kids camp and they will call the police if you touch their land.
People fish by boat and wade. As long as you don't touch their land they have no say in your fishing.
Had the NJ State police come down one time (just checking the parking lot) and read the riote act to the guys from the camp giving some kids a hard time for fishing from shore.
Even tried to give my son and I a hard time. But they gave up and went away after I started taking their pictures!
Aw shucks there I go making a fool out of myself on line again. Sorry about the whole rooked thing, I saw that was on a different post of one of your pics Zach. I'm a little paranoid about Google, so thats where that came from. I've gotta work on my…
They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…
I was kind of worried about that, but I have seen some variations of Hybrids look this way, or at least that is what was posted on the internet.
We always called these black pearch.
To be honest I do not think the Green Sunfish have the yellow bel…
I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart.
Do you have tricks you would like to share on catching these guys?
Did you happen to get the weight of any of these fish?
They fight just like a big bluegill. I am told you can eat them but haven't tried yet. The ones we caught today went to a friend who has a pet shop. I wouldn't mind trying them though. They are local to south Texas and I would imagine that they eat…
Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…
Oh brother, Zach living in Northeast Oklahoma and having not fished this lake before......Let me tell you.
A spring fed 90 Acres of Heaven.
The wildlife department comes in and stocks trout every other week from November until the end of March (bl…
Cedric you are truly gifted to be capable of putting things like this into the words they way that you do. I've been reading your posts, you have just gained a huge fan. Cant wait to hear more from you!
