Very Cool Photo

Don't know why I thought of this, but that would make an awesome jigsaw puzzle. Might take awhile to complete!

How good is bass pro shop?

The problem with Bass Pro in Gurnee is that it is too close to home! It is too easy for me to shoot over there and pick up some more things that I don't really need. I do watch for sales to get good…

I saw that same sky on my way to work from Gurnee yesterday morning. Unfortunately, I had I94 in the foreground, not a pretty iced over lake. So when are you going to drill some holes in it? A popular channel off the Fox treated me well last weeken…

Love the markings on that fish and on pickerel in general. My brother in law is an avid bass fisherman in Arkansas and is always disappointed when he gets a pickerel. Seems like they consider them a nusiance there. Their sharp teeth have stolen many…

Hey Jim, Those look fantastic! Do you plan to tip them with anything? They look good enough to do the trick without. Do they "breath" in the water like marabou? I haven't tied my own jigs in years...may just have to dig out the old vice again. I use…

Waiting for Ice!

Hello All...
I'm looking forward to the ice fishing season. I've never had a lot of luck in late fall from shore. Can't wait for ice so that I can access some deeper water and some different lakes and ponds. I do not own a boat.

I'd like to get a one man portable shelter...any recommendations? I already have one of the "Ice Cube" shelters that I picked up for $25 end of season clearance a few years back. That works fine for the kids and I when we locate a good spot. But I'd like to get more mob… Continue

Hey Bill...thanks for the nice compliments on the critters. Yes I do catch most of my fish on them without tipping them with bait as they do 'breathe' and undulate in the water. When I scale down to 1/64 th oz jigs, I tend to tip them, and they seen to work better in cold water conditions with bait as well.

You might want to go back to tying jigs again...it is fun and there is great appreciation in catching fish on your own creations. Talk to ya! Jim

Thank you for your comment Bill. Bluegill hybrids are interesting colorful fish. I'm not familiar with these fish as I would like to be, but for now It's 11 inches to qualify. I hope you catch one!!!

Hey Bill, I am fortunate to have 2 ponds in my area that have the hybrids, one pond has them up to about 9 in and the other pond has mostly over 10 inch fish-an incredible fishery!I may be shifting gears for crappies soon as a couple of local lakes have some serious slabs waiting for the fillet knife!

Hey Bill....don't you just love those hybrids? Man they are about the strongest panfish I think I have ever caught! I have been fortunate enough to have caught 6 this year over 11 inches...still looking for that '12' incher.

They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…

I was kind of worried about that, but I have seen some variations of Hybrids look this way, or at least that is what was posted on the internet. We always called these black pearch. To be honest I do not think the Green Sunfish have the yellow bel…

I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart. Do you have tricks you would like to share on catching these guys? Did you happen to get the weight of any of these fish?

They fight just like a big bluegill. I am told you can eat them but haven't tried yet. The ones we caught today went to a friend who has a pet shop. I wouldn't mind trying them though. They are local to south Texas and I would imagine that they eat…

Oops sorry Zach I forgot about need a trout stamp on your license.

Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…

About the only time you can fish Pawhuska from the bank is when they drop the lake for trout season. There is no cost to fish it.

I know, I will have to try it out this fall when the temps drop a bit. Can you fish it from the bank at all, and is there a cost to fish it?
