- There's a pond near my house where I go to go fly fishing. All the bluegill near my 8" long or bigger. I use a little black popper and as soon as it hits the water I feel a nice bluegill or bass on my line.

Last weekend I went to the Six O Ranch near Cleburne, Texas. Caugh many coppernose bluegill. I had never seen such large bluegill. They were all around 10+" long. I had brought my 8 wt. expecting bass, but the bluegill were more fun. And with the heavy line, I did not have to worry about babying my fly or line.

i finally caught my first on my 3/4 fly rod. i was missing more that i was catchn but i was still haveing a blast.

Tuesday was my last day (for that trip) at Lake LBJ. Didn't feel like launching the kayak, so I went to a park. The first dozen casts brought a dozen fish to hand, almost all in the 8-10 inch range (only one was around 7 inches). Then it slowed down. In the hour and a half I was there, I brought 23 gills to hand, and lost 3 (the little monsters held on 'til they got close, but were never hooked - I HATE being teased like that). :-D

My stomach usually doesn't give the scales enough time to join in on the action though.

I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart.

Oops sorry Zach I forgot about need a trout stamp on your license.
Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…
About the only time you can fish Pawhuska from the bank is when they drop the lake for trout season. There is no cost to fish it.
I know, I will have to try it out this fall when the temps drop a bit. Can you fish it from the bank at all, and is there a cost to fish it?
