Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ever went and looked at your states record fish and say to your self..... Ive caught and eat one bigger than that! OMG Its happened to me. I would love to nail the WRBB but as we all know I got a better chance of winnin the lottery a half dozen times in a row of catchin that monster. Ive only seen one 2lb gill in my entire life on the end of my pole. Well make that 2. The other was prolly pushin 3lbs of shellcraker. Dang thang made me madder than a pack of wild dogs on a 3 legged cat when it broke my favorite BnM telescopic pole. Any way....... I was just lookin at my state records and I got alllllllll excited when I seen warmouth record was  1lb 12oz. Ive beat that. I eat that. Ive released a couple back. I got a few holes that in the dead heat of summer I can really put a whappin on em. This year my friends I SHALL BE A BIG BLUEGILL STATE RECORD HOLDER!!!!!!

Do you have a state record you think you may have thrown back? Ive done it and I know other folks who have.

I thank I can do it.
I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can.

I KNOW I CAN!!!!!

Texas state record Bluegill 1lb 13oz 11.5 inch long. I think I can grow one in my pond alless that size. Will they let you count one grown in your own pond?

In Fork or Fairfield you could probably beat that record.

The time is getting closer and closer! Caught a few that beat around the 10" mark last weekend while crappie fishing. Something Ive noticed. BIG BAIT = BIG WARMOUTH! Im starting to think that maybe I need to target the big boys with shinners! There still deep now. Havent caught a gill in months. Crickets dont like the cold. We got exactly 5 weeks till the first spawn. I wish Somebody could just put me to sleep sometimes so I wouldnt have to realize what waiting was!

Counting the hours,

I hear you on the waiting really starting to suck. SO CLOSE but yet still to far away. Big bait keeps the little fish away just leave the little sucker waiting on the big one,. Here fishy fishy. I did catch a 13" bass on a #10 crappie hock with a 1/2" flathead minnow. But in a 3/4 acre pond where else can he lol

Rootin' for ya in PA Jeremy!

Back in 2007, my youngest and I spent a day fishing for white perch. They are considered an evasive species here in Pa and we just happen to enjoy eating them - which makes for a great combination. He managed to bring home two fish that stood out from the others in the cooler - one went 1lb. 15ozs., the other a 2lb. 1ozs. specimen.
We took some pics and proceeded to prep the entire haul for a fresh fish dinner. That evening, as I sat down to work, I looked down the list of PA record fish just to see what the white perch record was...........................it's still at 1lb. 7ozs.

see what I mean! This is something that believe it or not shouldnt be that hard to do if we pay attention!

Jeremy, you should always target that big warmouth sub-conciencely....it will come. However if your going to fish with Marie while in search of the state record, be sure and set her up with some type of surface bait to set the odds in your favor!

Marie is the best catch Jeremy will ever get. lol

My stomach usually doesn't give the scales enough time to join in on the action though.

They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…

I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart. Do you have tricks you would like to share on catching these guys? Did you happen to get the weight of any of these fish?

They fight just like a big bluegill. I am told you can eat them but haven't tried yet. The ones we caught today went to a friend who has a pet shop. I wouldn't mind trying them though. They are local to south Texas and I would imagine that they eat…

Oops sorry Zach I forgot about need a trout stamp on your license.

Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…

About the only time you can fish Pawhuska from the bank is when they drop the lake for trout season. There is no cost to fish it.

I know, I will have to try it out this fall when the temps drop a bit. Can you fish it from the bank at all, and is there a cost to fish it?
